The South Island of New Zealand joins the Eden Registry
In December 2012, Sally Hopkins and Cathy Meyer headed to the shaky isles of New Zealand’s South Island for the first Eden Registry visits for this part of New Zealand. Homes on the North Island have been Edenising for a couple of years, but until now, the South Island was virgin Eden Alternative territory.
Four homes had applied for membership to the Eden Registry of Australia and New Zealand. Impressed with what they saw and heard, they wanted to share the stories of what they found when crossing the ‘ditch’. We know that sharing stories about the Eden Alternative and the culture change that occurs will encourage others to continue the great work that is involved in shifting the culture of care from a medical model to an empowered model of resident or client directed care.
