Book now!! March 2025 – Leadership in Dementia Care workshops

Our Workshops – in Auckland, New Zealand & Canberra, Australia:

Brought to you by The Eden Alternative® and facilitated by Dr Allen Power M.D. and Jessica Luh Kim M.A., this 3 day professional development opportunity focuses on person-directed dementia care and creating inclusive communities.

Day 1 & 2 – Dementia Beyond Drugs Workshop
Based upon Dr. Allen Power’s award winning book, “Dementia Beyond Drugs“, this workshop is designed to introduce the concept of person directed care for people living with dementia, using an experiential approach rather than a medical approach.
Key messages include: strengthening interpersonal relationships through effective person directed care practices; implementing a wellbeing framework and minimising medication. Seeing the person first, before their disease.

Day 2 – Evening screening of the award-winning documentary “Human Forever” (Canberra only)
Human Forever is a film made by 24 year-old nurse Teun Toebes & filmmaker Jonathan de Jong. It follows Teun as he embarks on an adventurous three-year journey across four continents and through 11 countries, looking for answers to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia. Teun and Jonathon will be available – albeit remotely from the Netherlands – after the screening for a Q&A session.

Day 3 – Creating Inclusive Communities in Dementia Care
This symposium / workshop is a practical learning opportunity for leaders. In the morning, a keynote from Dr Al Power focusing upon unlocking the doors for people living with dementia. Hear from a panel of industry leaders about their approach to relationship directed dementia care.

In the afternoon, explore how to plan for, create and implement an inclusive community for people living with dementia, using the six pillars of:
1. Reframing Dementia
2. Creating a supportive environment
3. Focus upon wellbeing
4. Leverage our collective capacity through dialogue
